The Temecula Valentines Day Challenge for Home Owners

Can you believe it? Valentine’s Day is only three days away! At this very moment you may be rushing around trying to find the perfect gift or making sure your dinner reservations are actually confirmed. But as I was driving through our beautiful Temecula Valley recently, watching a group of spectacular hot air balloons drift over the perfectly manicured wine country vineyards, I realized something. The best "gift" for a relationship isn't always something you wrap in a box. Sometimes, it’s the very roof over your head.

That day, that experience, inspired me to issue the Temecula Valley V-Day Challenge! If you’re up for it, keep reading. Romance isn't just about the big gestures. It’s also about the environment we create for each other. Here in Temecula, we are so lucky because our homes aren't just houses—they are built for connection.

The Magic of Mediterranean Style

If you live in one of our classic Mediterranean or Spanish Revival homes, you already know the vibe. The red-tiled roofs and arched doorways feel like a vacation in Italy every single day. But have you ever noticed how the "inner courtyards" in these homes create an opportunity to change the way you talk to your spouse?

When you step away from the TV or phone, as part of the Temecula Valley V-Day Challenge, and sit in a quiet courtyard with a glass of local Syrah, the world will slow down. There’s something about being tucked away behind those stucco walls that makes it easier to share your heart. It’s a space where you aren't "Mom and Dad" or "The Neighbors"—you’re a couple; deeply committed, in desperate love with each other, sharing one of many beautiful moments in your home.

Outside In for Valentine's Day

Windows and patios! The weather is so spectacular in this part of the country that architects have consistently built homes with outdoor features and/or massive windows. It makes sense, looking out at the rolling hills or your own little garden does something to your mood. Scientific studies actually show that wives feel less stressed when their homes feel "restorative" and connected to nature.

The Temecula Valley V-Day Challenge includes considering the use of your outdoor environment, patios or large windows, to bring the restorative outside magic inside. A bright, open kitchen where you can cook a meal together while watching the sunset over the De Portola Wine Trail? That’s a prime recipe for resounding romance.

Little Nook, Big Moments

Romantic nooks matter. Whether it’s a cozy fireplace in a Craftsman-style home or a private balcony overlooking a vineyard, the simple yet sacred places might open up a game changing romance flood gate. With Valentine’s Day on Friday, the Temecula Valley V-Day Challenge tasks you to actually use these spaces.

The V-Weekend

Sometimes we get so caught up in the "business" of running a home—the laundry, the bills, the cleaning—that we forget to enjoy the romance of the home. Your house can be a partner in your relationship. It could give you a place to hide away from the noise of the world and just be together.

Here is my Temecula Valley V-Day Challenge: As the sun sets over the valley tonight, take a look around your home. Take in the construction style of your home, Mediterranean or otherwise. Consider the open, bright spaces in your home, windows or patios. Reimagine those nooks that have romantic potential. Find that one spot—maybe it’s the porch swing or the window seat—and invite your spouse to sit with you for ten minutes, or put on music you both love and make an evening of it. No phones, no talk about the schedule for next week. Just the two of you taking advantage of something that has always been there. Your home and your loving relationship.

Take the Temecula Valley V-Day Challenge and make the V stand for not only Valentine’s Day but VICTORY in your marriage. I look forward to hearing about your weekend romance journey in the comments section.

Temecula isn't just a place to visit for wine; it’s a place to build a life that feels like a love story. Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day, everyone!

P.S. If this challenge missed the mark for you because you aren’t in your romantic dream home, I would be honored to be part of your love story in helping you to find that home. That’s what I do, getting you from where you are to where you want to be in your real estate purchase or sale.
